SUMMARY:2026 Budget & Tax Policy and Implications for Workforce Development
DESCRIPTION:How will federal budget and tax policies impact workers\, families\, and communities? What lies ahead at the federal level and in the states? What’s at stake and in play in 2026? \nBudget and tax policies impact what families have to spend on basic needs and invest in their future\, define the size of the government and its role in the national economy\, and affect the lives of all Americans. \nEconomic Opportunity Funders is hosting a funder briefing in the DC area on March 26-27 to explore these issues and how funders can help meet the challenges of the moment and support bold solutions to build a more inclusive and equitable future. \nWorkforce Matters members are invited to attend this meeting in person or watch a recording and then join in a debrief conversation on March 31 with funder colleagues.Join us on March 31 from 12-1 pm ET for a funder-only follow-up conversation\, featuring speakers from the National Skills Coalition\, to explore workforce policy and budget implications and opportunities for funder engagement. \nThis session is open to staff of philanthropic organizations and philanthropic advisors. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration here: https://share.hsforms.com/1IupwD1cCT3StCDd-pKiU_gc2cqp

SUMMARY:Centering Tribal Sovereignty in Workforce Systems and the Role of Philanthropy
DESCRIPTION:This webinar for funders and field partners will provide two examples from Indian Country of implementing a collective vision and governance model to strengthen workforce programs in Tribal communities. Our speakers will share how a workforce vision for Tribal communities has been organized to both center Tribal community priorities and challenge policies and systems that continue to undermine Tribal sovereignty. We will hear from Native Workforce Partners\, an organization of workforce and education programs serving Native people in New Mexico that supports employment and training programs in both tribal nations and urban centers through a collective group of programs funded by the US Department of Labor under Section 166 or 477 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act\, and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe\, who have focused on implementing a community-designed education and workforce pipeline. Panelists will discuss how their governance structure creates self-determined priorities\, what policies they hope to advance at the state level\, how federal policies have impacted their work to date\, and finally\, how philanthropy has played a role in catalyzing their efforts. This conversation is open to grantmakers and field partners. \nThis will be the first in a series of webinars sponsored by Workforce Matters’ Workforce Grantmaking in Native Nations and Communities in 2026. For more information on this series\, please email nativenations@workforce-matters.org. Register here today! \nSpeakers: \n\nBernadette Panteah\, Co-chair\, Native Workforce Partners\nMegan Elkins\, Program Officer\, W.K. Kellogg Foundation\nDr. Christine Meyer\, Director of Education\, Coeur d’Alene Tribe
