Laura Love, Strada Education Foundation

Tell us a little bit about your background and why you joined Workforce Matters.

I currently lead the work-based learning strategy at Strada Education Foundation. Our aspiration is for every learner to have access to quality work-based learning, so we’re focused on a dramatic scale of paid internships, apprenticeships, and other quality models that are currently out of reach for so many young people. Before Strada, I spent about a decade at Year Up, a workforce development non-profit, where I focused on expanding career pathways for young adults and helping employers strengthen their talent pipelines. I joined Workforce Matters because I believe unifying our voices and pursuing collective action can multiply our impact. I am eager to learn from the talented leaders and organizations in the network.

What do you love about workforce development?

I love workforce development because, at the end of the day, it’s about profound human impact. For example, a strong work-based learning experience can completely transform a person’s employment trajectory, ambition, self-belief, and satisfaction. This was the case for me as I had the opportunity to do internships that were formative to my development. I am very passionate about enabling the systems and structures that expand access for all.

What is something people might not know about you?

I majored in international relations and have had the opportunity to live in Singapore and the UK.

What is something you are looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to orienting myself to the network and building personal and hopefully lifelong relationships with the steering committee members!
