Many have called the 2024 election one of the most consequential elections of our lifetime, and perhaps they’re right. However, without understating the importance of this 2024 election and its results, it’s possible that Americans in previous centuries felt the same way, and they too were right. Whether you believe in the consequential nature of this election or not, we recognize that the work to support social and economic mobility and advance equity and justice for ALL Americans, especially those most excluded and marginalized, must continue.
At Workforce Matters, we envision a workforce development field where funders work effectively with all workforce ecosystem stakeholders to amplify worker and learner agency and advance race-conscious and equitable workforce programs and practices, workforce policy, and employer practices in order to close disparities and improve outcomes for every worker in support of a vibrant economy.
The thing about a vision is that it’s grounding. Even or especially when things are turbulent or uncertain, a vision keeps you moving forward, focused on what — and who — is important, and why.
As a national network of grantmakers that draws on expert and practitioner knowledge, we have the ability to shape, inform, influence and advocate for changes to policies and practices in the field of workforce development that have the potential to yield transformative change for our society at large. This means that no matter what happens around us, our work matters, and because it matters, we MUST continue to lean in.
As we move into the post-election season, our commitment to our mission and goals remains steadfast, and we invite you to join us in looking forward.
In case you’ve forgotten OR you don’t feel particularly inspired, remember that the work you do matters, the life you live makes a difference, and together we can continue to dream and create a society that values us all.
Yours in partnership,
Loh-Sze Leung and Clair Minson
